Masters and officers serving on a ship flying the Portuguese Flag will receive a “Statement of Receipt of Application – SRA” and a “Certificate of Endorsement”.

Certificates must be issued in accordance with STCW (Standards of Training Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers Convention). Certificates for EU crew members, or issued by countries with which Portugal has a specific agreement will be immediately recognized.

Minimum Safe manning crew must be proposed in accordance with IMO Assembly Directive 1047 (27) and MAR technical Commission will verify and issue the respective certificate.

Crew Composition

The captain and 50% of the crew must be European (including Ukraine, Russia etc.) or Portuguese speaking countries nationals; (Shipowners may apply for an exemption for navigation and security reasons) there are no limitations regarding other seafarers.

1. Names, nationality and duties on board.

2. Seaman books. (national)

3. Health certificates.

4. Certificate of competence (if officers).

5. Contracts of employment.

6. Another certificates of competence, when required (pursuant to the type of vessel).

7. Operator certificate GMDSS.
